SCHOOL SPORT VICTORIA – LODDON MALLEE REGION

Intermediate Boys Football

Our Intermediate Football Team made the journey to sunny Swan Hill on Wednesday 26 July to take part in the Loddon Mallee Region Finals.

The first game was against St Joseph’s College Echuca, and the boys were in good form early, with Carter Reid kicking the first goal of the game. From there however, St Joe’s took control of the game and we struggled to move the ball forward for the remainder of the game. Our backline held up well, led by Hugh Behrens, with Madden Guthrie providing a good target out of defence. Zane Connick and Miller Nihill also played well around the contests and gave us plenty of clearances. St Joes however managed to kick 2 goals to come away with a 9-point victory.

Final score: CMC 1.1. 7 to St Joseph’s 2.2.16

The second game was against St Mary MacKillop College Swan Hill. Once again, our boys started this game well and put an early goal on the board through Eamon Austin. Swan Hill came back with a reply before Carter Reid scored his second goal for the day and we looked to have control. Swan Hill then flicked a switch and finished the game full of run and kicked the last two goals of the game to win by 2 points.

Better players for this game were Eamon Austin, Charlie Duke with his drive from defence and Lenny McNamara with his hard work around the contested footy.

Final scores were CMC 1.5. 17 to St Mary MacKillop 3.1.19

The third game was against a very impressive St Joseph’s College Mildura. They were the yardstick for the day taking care of all schools. We matched their effort in the first few minutes, with a goal from Madden Guthrie. However, St Joe’s class was on full show as they kicked goals from many of their forward entries. Our backline did a super job in holding up as best they could but could not stop the slick ball movement from a quality opposition.

Better players in this game were Ben Miller, Hugh Behrens, and Oliver Stewart.

Final scores were CMC 1.4 .10 to St Joseph’s Mildura 7.3.45

Our final game for the day was against Maryborough Education Centre. The boys played in a few different positions in this game which demonstrated the versatile skills of the team. It was great to see the boys finish the day with a good win. Goals were kicked by Carter Reid, Llogan Mayman, Oliver Stewart, Ben Miller and Hugh Behrens.

Better players were Ben Miller, Caleb Tobin and Carter Reid

A massive thanks to Holly Speed and Maree Pearce for everything they did in organising the team this year. They did a great job driving our Year 10 boys down to camp the next day, along with Mr Prowse and Mrs Darlow who drove other students back so they could be part of this team. Finally, a big thanks to the Year 10 Year Level Learning Leaders for allowing the boys to play in this event during camp and to Mr Barnes for his expert help on the sidelines.
