Year 9 shines in Seussical at Ulumbarra

15/06/2018

Congratulations to our team of Year 9 students and staff on their committed work over the past five months, culminating in three brilliant performances of Seussical in the Ulumbarra Theatre last week.

Audiences loved it just as much as the cast and crew. The matinee introduced hundreds of Catholic primary school students to the magic of live theatre. They enjoyed seeing familiar Dr Seuss characters such as Horton the Elephant, Amazing Mayzie, The Grinch and of course the Cat in the Hat.

Students have expressed their pride in working together for such a sustained period:

“The Production has been a fantastic experience, everyone has really got involved. The time spent on the production is something I will never forget. I wish we could do production in any year.”

“I loved dressing up and showing the Bendigo community how great our show is and making new friends.”

“It was awesome to work with Darcy on the radio mics.”

“I never thought I would end up doing something like this – my confidence has sky rocketed!

Director Kerry Turpie is passionate about the amazing journey she has shared with students and staff, both on and off stage, to bring Seussical to Ulumbarra:

“We have explored the magical and imaginative world of Dr Seuss as well as exploring and building on students’ skills in singing, dancing and acting these larger-than-life characters. Together we have built our nearly 90-member ensemble, creating new friendships, sharing laughs and stressful moments. We have developed students’ confidence, singing techniques and knowledge of how to develop a performance for an audience.

Of course, we couldn’t have done it without the amazing groups of students and staff who have worked in many different areas – backstage crew, building, painting, learning technical skills with Mark McDowell from YourShow; all have contributed to this incredible production.”

Congratulations to everyone involved and thank you to Mrs Kerry Turpie (Director), Ms Ashleigh Yeates (Musical Director) and Miss Sarah Gross (Producer) for leading the Production Team in 2018.
