Year 9 News – 3 July 2025

28/06/2025

Congratulations to Tyson Byrne and Chase Bowie who have shown community spirit and service by working with Mr Sam Barnes to create frames in the shape of a cross for the Year 7 Encounter Day. These frames were used to display tiles students have individually decorated to display College values, interests and the Beatitudes.

In Digital Technology students have been learning how to integrate different computer systems to get them to work together. Students are learning to code LEGO Mindstorms with BBC Microbits as well as Makey Makeys. The students have done an amazing job at creating some original solutions to difficult problems.

There has been some amazing work completed by the Creative Product Design classes recently, focusing on native flora. The images shown are from the Illustration Folio Assessment Task. Students explored drawing natural forms (seed pods) and using a variety of media. This then led into another assessment task, where the seed pods were created into sculptural forms using clay. A visual communication and design task wraps up the unit where students promote their work through the production of a pamphlet or poster. This includes images, text and logo design as well as print media compositional skills.

Year 9 Maths are currently working on Measurement, looking at surface area and volume. This follows on from a review of area of basic and composite shapes.
