Year 8 News – Thursday 3 July 2025
30/06/2025An enormous 11-week term is coming to an end, capping off a huge semester. The students have been very busy finalising assessments and we commend the effort and contribution they’re all making to our school community.
Some highlights from the past fortnight have been the Humanities assessments, where students have been very creative in creating dioramas of the landform they’ve been studying. Some of these were traditional ‘shoebox’ dioramas, whilst others baked cakes and even went as far as welding scrap metal together to create their piece. It was terrific to wander through the classrooms and witness the lengths the students have gone into their projects. We have attached some pictures below for your viewing.
The students have also been busy in the kitchen and have capped off the semester by indulging in some homemade nachos and baking honey joys to share with the family at home.
Finally, STEAM has seen a focus on rock formations. The students were presented with a challenge to create the sturdiest poppet head out of newspaper and tape. Given Bendigo’s mining heritage, the students had plenty of inspiration for their designs.
Next semester sees our students embark on their last round of electives. They will be selecting their subjects for 2026 throughout next term. Please keep your eyes peeled for information regarding subject selection.
The students will also be engaging in Year 8 Encounter Day, with a theme around ‘Respect’ (for self, for others, for environment). We have put a lot of time and effort into creating a meaningful experience for Year 8 students, headlined by hand-on activities and guest speakers. We hope to see the whole cohort there.
Wishing the students and their families a safe and restful holiday. We will see you on Tuesday 22 July. Stay warm!
