SCHOOL SPORT VICTORIA – STATE FOOTBALL QUARTER-FINAL

Year 8 Boys

The Year 8 Boys travelled to Alfredton, Ballarat for the State Quarter Finals on Wednesday 16 August. Their quarter-final match was against the formidable Maribyrnong College, renowned for its exceptional sports program. Despite that, the team was undaunted and eager to embrace the immense challenge ahead.

The field was in excellent condition, and the boys eagerly anticipated the appearance of their opponents who arrived mere minutes before the opening bounce. Throughout the game, impressive sequences of play unfolded, with the ball transitioning both laterally and forward. Physicality was evident in hard tackles and impactful collisions. Regrettably, sustaining a consistent effort across all four quarters proved to be beyond reach, ultimately leading to our downfall. Maribyrnong boasted several high-calibre players and proved too formidable on the day.

Final Scores: CMC 5.8.38 was defeated by Maribyrnong 12.11.83.

The team and coaching staff extend immense gratitude to Holly Speed and Maree Pearce. Their efforts provided us with the opportunity to represent the College, and their diligent behind-the-scenes work contributed to the success of the experience. Appreciation is also extended to the Year 9 helpers and emergency players who assisted on the day. We also acknowledge the Year Level Learning Leaders’ support in allowing these students to participate and assist the team. A heartfelt thanks to the parents and friends who made the journey to Ballarat to encourage the team. The presence of a cheering squad on the day didn’t go unnoticed and the entire team are thankful for their attendance.
