Year 7s view ‘Verbal Combat’ performance, addressing cyber bullying, harrassment & unhealthy friendship groups

19/08/2019

‘Verbal Combat’ is a live performance that our Year 7 students viewed at Coolock recently. It addresses the consequences of cyber bullying, harassment and unhealthy friendship groups. It clearly defines the behaviours that constitute bullying and encourages empathy and compassion. It gives clear strategies for supporting victims and resisting peer pressure to say or post hurtful comments. This program has been developed in consultation with teachers, psychologists, as well as real-life student experiences and is designed to provide students with positive and useful tools that they can use in their everyday lives.

“This performance was about bullying and what impact it has on people. I thought this was really great, how it taught people about what happens to someone who is being bullying and how to stand up to it. Also, the character Rocky teaches us to be ourselves and not let people manipulate you. I really liked this performance because it had a great message.” (Jedd, Year 7)

“That was great – an excellent incursion. It was amazing that we did not hear boo from the kids until the Q and A.  They were riveted. Great job.” (Mrs Kingsley)
