Year 7s begin Term 2 with a flourish of activities

05/05/2022

Year 7 students have started with a flourish of activities, including an Indigenous smoking ceremony, athletics day, various school sports, and some of our students assisting with our Grade 6 ‘Discover CMC’ Days. It was fantastic to watch our Year 7 students participate in their first house cup event, the CMC Athletics Carnival. Congratulations to all of our students who had the courage to participate. Several of our students will now represent the College in the Athletics Team later this term.

As part of their Veritas unit ‘Waanyarra’ (water in Dja Dja Wurrung language), our students participated in an Indigenous smoking ceremony. Students learnt about the significance of the ceremony in Indigenous culture and gained a further understanding of the Indigenous connection to water and the land. Students were asked to reflect on their year and their intentions for this term. They walked through the smoke as they reflected.

Next week the Year 7s will participate in NAPLAN, the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy. The tests will take place in core class groups from Tuesday 10 to Friday 13 May. More details are available in the NAPLAN information section of this newsletter.
