School Sports Victoria – State Tennis Final

Year 7 Boys

On Friday 17 November, the Year 7 Boys tennis team participated in the SSV State Tennis Championships. Despite a late change of venue and unfortunate car troubles, the team arrived at Dingley Tennis Club in Melbourne ready to compete against some of the best teams in the state.

The day started strong with the boys playing Trafalgar High School in Round 1. The unfamiliar clay courts took a bit of getting used to, but the boys were able to navigate the conditions well, winning 5 out of 6 sets, with a total of 23 games to 9.

The second game was against Maribyrnong Sports Academy. This round was challenging as the opposition displayed impressive skills and appeared very experienced. Our boys worked hard for every point and never dropped their heads. Despite losing all sets they pushed their opposition to earn the win.

Game 3 was against Box Hill High School. After watching Box Hill play against Maribyrnong, the boys knew they were up against an impressive team. The CMC team played hard yet fair tennis, with the boys showcasing their skills and talents and challenging each point. They were excited to gain a set against this quality opposition. CMC 1 set, 4 games to Box Hill 5 Sets, 22 games.

It was a privilege to take such a wonderful group of students away. The sportsmanship, friendship and camaraderie amongst the team is commendable, all students are congratulated for the way they represented the school.

Thank you to Mrs Pearce for driving and supporting the team throughout the competition. Thank you to Mrs Hietbrink for her support in assisting and encouraging the team on the day.
