Year 10 Music and Orchestra Victoria

22/08/2018

‘On the mOVe’ is a series of workshops offered by Orchestra Victoria as part of the regional tour each year, offering students the chance to perform in a full orchestral environment. The orchestra visited Bendigo in August to conduct comprehensive mentoring workshops. The workshops featured seventy-five school musicians from across the Bendigo region and they performed numerous stunning orchestral pieces, including works by Rossini and Elgar and finishing with a superb tribute to Disney’s ‘Frozen’.

Whilst some of the professional members of the orchestra were tutoring the students in the workshop, numerous other musicians performed around town. We were also able to take our Year 10 music class to the Bendigo Library to see and hear a delightful realization of Prokofiev’s ‘Peter and the Wolf’. Most importantly, we had one of the College’s new students, Corey Lionis, Year 10, representing the school on violin.

Corey began learning the violin eight years ago and has since progressed through the formal Australian Music Examination Board levels. Most recently he received an A, Honours for his fourth grade violin examination.

Corey began performing as a soloist in Year 8 when he joined a classroom music elective at his previous school. He continues to play with a String Ensemble with other students from the Bendigo region each week. He is also going to be a participant in our Musician of the Year evening on Thursday 13 September 2018. We are all looking forward to encouraging Corey’s music journey and hope to see many of you at Musician on the Year.
