Yarra Valley backdrop for State Cross Country Final
25/07/2025SCHOOL SPORT VICTORIA – STATE FINAL
Cross Country
On Thursday 24 July, the CMCB Cross Country team travelled to the Yarra Valley Racing Club to compete in the School Sports Victoria State Cross Country Championships.
A total of 21 students represented CMCB across eight different age groups. The girls and boys in the 13 to 15 years category competed over a 3km course, while our 17 to 20 year old boys took on the more challenging 5km distance. Fortunately, the team was greeted with sunny conditions, making it a perfect day for running.
All students should be incredibly proud of how they carried themselves throughout the event. Their positive attitude, sportsmanship and determination were outstanding and a true reflection of our school community.

A special congratulations to the following students who placed in the top 20 of their respective age groups. This is an exceptional achievement, especially considering some categories had over 90 competitors:
- Kade Hutchinson – 5th place (16:19.597 5km)
- Mila Childs – 9th place (12:58.803 3km)
- Poppy Carter – 16th place (13:00.787 3km)

In the team events, our Senior Boys showed incredible grit and teamwork, securing second place overall. Their strategy of focusing on moving up one position at a time paid off. Congratulations to Kade Hutchinson, Kobi MacDonald and Mitchell Cakebread on becoming the 17 to 20 Year males State Runners Up.
A big thank you to all the parents and extended families who came along to support the team. Your encouragement means a lot. A special mention also to Mr Amberose for his support throughout the day, especially for driving the bus to and from the event. Well done to everyone involved.
