Wins on the board for Senior Netball girls
16/06/2025SCHOOL SPORT VICTORIA – SANDHURST DIVISION
Senior Girls Netball
On Monday 2 June, the Senior Girls participated in the Senior section of the Sandhurst Division Netball Competition at the Golden City courts. The team looked awesome in their brand-new warm-up tops, and everyone was keen for a fun day of netball. The girls voted for Neve Pinner to be the team captain for the day, and Jaida Raco and Harriet Whiteacre as Vice-Captains, which made for a very talented and experienced leadership team.
With 11 amazing players in the squad, the girls were excited to try new combinations and get some wins on the board during the four games scheduled for the day.
The results were as follows:
Game 1 – CMCB def Castlemaine Secondary College (20-4)
In the first game, all 11 players had some time on court, using breaks and rolling subs. Castlemaine proved to be a strong opposition, with the score not a true reflection of the high quality of the game. The goalers worked well in all combinations, as the centre court players moved the ball beautifully and cohesively, and the defenders were exceptional in turning the ball over, as well as rebounding shots, as they limited the opposition’s second chances.
Game 2 – CMCB def Bendigo Senior Secondary College (15-12)
In a tough match, the team really needed to dig deep and grind it out. The pressure was felt all over the court as BSSC began well so the girls needed to settle and find their flow. It was hard going, with feeds into the ring being met with physical opposition. The centre court cohort battled hard as they worked the ball down court and the defenders were relentless in their efforts to turn the ball over. Some pivotal turnovers at crucial stages resulted in the girls creating scoring opportunities that were capitalised on, ensuring the team’s victory.
Game 3 – CMCB def Marist College Bendigo (17-7)
On the back of a solid win against BSSC, the girls went into this match knowing that this would also be a tough game, so their determination to start well was at the forefront of their minds. This positive mindset saw the girls get off to a fast start as they gained the early momentum. This determined and clinical display was terrific to watch as the team’s flow and transitional ball work was a highlight, with Marist unable to match our energy. It was a terrific team effort, which once again enabled player rotations to occur in the second half.
Game 4 – CMCB def SEDA College (29-7)
The last game of the day, against SEDA, began evenly despite a different on-court combination from the previous game. Players were rotated throughout the game, allowing everyone a chance to get some valuable court time. The game was played in great spirits, allowing the girls to play in positions that they may not have had a chance to play in for years, particularly for some of our Year 12 girls. Smiles, laughter and enjoyment were a great reminder of why we play netball, and the girls certainly did both throughout the tournament.
Everyone in the team represented the College so well – teamwork, enjoyment for the game and the privilege of playing on such a beautiful day were all highlights. The girls’ goaling, defending, passing, court movement and disciplined and patient play were to be commended, as well as the leadership skills that were on display. Congratulations team on a fantastic result and we look forward to our next competition.
