Welcome to Coolock

11/02/2019

Welcome to 2019 at Catherine McAuley College. Welcome back to returning students and families and welcome to all newcomers.

It has been a very exciting start to the year that commenced with our Pastoral Planning Day in the recently completed Sister Aloysius Martyn Arts Building. We have had first classes in new year levels and exciting new subjects running, along with preparation for our Opening Mass and Years 7, 8 & 9 camps that will occur this term.

Pastoral Planning Day saw more than 1400 students and their families through the Coolock Campus as they were welcomed to the start of the new school year. Thank you to our families for your commitment to making this day work and ensuring that our students make their best possible start to the year.

It is with excitement that we see Veritas (the search for truth) classes running in our College. After many months of planning, this integrated approach allows deeper learning and transfer to occur for our students. The first Veritas topics for the year are;

  • Year 7 – Who am I?
  • Year 8 – A Just world
  • Year 9 – Stewardship & Sustainability

Please refer to the information included in our Learning & Teaching piece in this newsletter for more information about deeper learning.

Our first Student Representative Council (SRC) meetings have been held this week and the students are excited about making contributions to our newly re-structured House Cup Competition and influence our Stewardship & Sustainability Council and Master Planning Committee.

We continue to celebrate Catherine McAuley’s work and legacy, and her inspiration, Jesus Christ. May we truly live our gospel and mercy values every day of the year ahead.

Mr Tim Edwards, Deputy Principal – Coolock
