Principal’s Letter to Families – 19 January 2022

Dear Parents and Carers,

It is my pleasure to welcome new and returning families to the beginning of the 2022 academic year.

We are excited to welcome our new Year 7s and other students across all year levels to the Catherine McAuley College family and hope that they will all quickly settle in to their new environment.

Unfortunately, once again we approach the start of the new school year with a mixture of caution and optimism. Given the current challenges presented by the pandemic, we are once again waiting for various authorities to detail the requirements and conditions for the commencement of the year. What we can reasonably assume is that some of the calendar events planned for the coming weeks will need to be modified or cancelled.

Given the current spike in COVID cases and the challenges that presents, we have made the difficult decision to cancel Year 12 Retreat and the whole College Pastoral Planning Day. Once we have the latest government directions, we hope that all students from Year 7 to 12 will be here on Tuesday 1 February to commence the school year.

We hope and pray that there will be some relief from the ravages of COVID and this year will unfold in such a way that sees a return to all the opportunities for academic and social experiences to help students grow and develop into young adults, and that they will be able to enjoy all the events and interactions that form the identity of our College.

We are also aware that we still face many challenges in our efforts to continue, as much as possible, with normal life. As has been the case throughout the past two years, every precaution will be taken to protect our community. We remain optimistic that we will adapt and navigate our way through these ever-changing conditions as best we can for the good of all in our community.

In the coming week, there will be new information provided that will then be circulated across our community to prepare for the year.

Congratulations to our 2021 graduates, many of whom have recently been granted offers at their tertiary institution of choice.

We look forward to students returning to the classrooms ready to learn and wish them all the very best for 2022.

Yours sincerely

Mr Brian Turner, Principal
