Walking in the footsteps of Catherine

16/10/2017

The office and breezeway at Coolock (Years 7 – 9) have a fresh new look, inspired by the spirit of Mercy, Catherine McAuley and the pioneering Sisters of Mercy who arrived in Sandhurst over 140 years ago.

Students conducted visiting Victorian Government Minister (and past student) Jacinta Allan on a tour through the re-vitalised area.

“We should be shining lamps giving light to all around us.”

The office reception features quotes from Catherine McAuley together with the story of her life and an elegant Mercy Cross.

“You must be cheerful and happy, animating all around you.”

The footprints through the breezeway invite you to “walk in the footsteps of Catherine”. The story of Aloysius Martyn and the pioneering Sisters of Sandhurst fills one wall and the other wall features our Mercy Education values – Justice, Courage, Respect, Hospitality, Compassion and Service.

Thank you to Deb Carter and Fraynework for their design and attention to detail during the installation of this project.
