SCHOOL SPORT VICTORIA – SANDHURST DIVISION

Senior Boys Volleyball

On Friday 7 March, the Senior Boys volleyball team contested the Sandhurst Division of the SSV Volleyball competition. In a five-team round-robin tournament, the boys knew from early on that they would be in for a long day of close matches.

Starting against Victory Christian College, the boys worked their way into the match. Team Captain, Min Min Soe, was vocal in directing his players and strategising for success. With Ezekiel Burke and Eh Ni Thar Taw playing consistently around the court, the game seesawed throughout both the first and second sets. Smooth patterns of play and clean execution of skill saw the team roll ahead to a 2 set to 0 win (20-18, 21-19).

Game 2 again Castlemaine Secondary College gave an opportunity for player rotations and trying different combinations. Graison Jelbert and Eh Htoo Wah came into the line-up and settled into the competitive style of play. The team knew percentage was important and raced through the match, taking the game in straight sets (20-8, 20-10).

Game 3 had always promised to be the most hotly contested for the day, coming up against Bendigo Senior Secondary College. Eh Htoo Taw Bleh Dah Moo was supporting his teammates with motivation, and covering all sorts of ground on court. The intensity lifted significantly, with Law La and Tamba Basha taking to the air and playing hard on the net. After the wrestle of the first set slipped just beyond reach, the boys regained composure and settled in to battle out the second, with the score line not reflecting just how closely the rallies and game had been. Unfortunately, this was the team’s only loss for the day (18-20, 14-20).

In Game 4, the team took on Marist College Bendigo and were keen to return to their earlier form. Lin Win found form on his serve and the team scrambled around the mid-court chasing drop shots or blocking spikes. With consistent serving and the returned form from the early matches, the team took out both sets and the match (20-17, 20-18).

Overall, the CMC team finished runners-up in the competition and could walk away proudly, having contested some great matches and shown excellent sportsmanship throughout.

A big thanks to Mr Colin Hogan for coaching and mentoring the Team.
