VCAL students provide soup lunch at St Mary’s for Rug Up Day

01/08/2022

Today, Monday 1 August, is Rug Up Day at CMC and we are all wearing warm clothes because the heaters are turned off. We are donating a gold coin from each person in warm clothes to go to Vinnies, to help people in need and people experiencing homelessness. On Rug Up Day, we focus on what it’s like for those who don’t have heating or warm clothes, so this is a good opportunity to be able to make a change and help people in need.

The Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) students are making soup for people to buy during lunchtime. Whatever amount of money we make will also go to Vinnies to support people in need. We are making some extra soup and whatever we have left will be donated to Bendigo Foodshare, to give a meal to people who have no food. To do this, we have worked as a team and this has helped develop our planning and organising skills.

Soup is being sold at Wright Café at St Mary’s Campus at lunch time. There are three options to choose from for soups, which cost $5 (or $4 if you bring your own cup you). We have asked all Years 10 – 12 students and staff to support this great cause to help people in need and stay warm with soup.
