Uniform Update – 8 February 2024

05/02/2024

“Families and the College working together always builds stronger partnerships.”

Thank you for the work that you have done to prepare your child for the 2024 school year and your ongoing commitment to the College. We have had a really positive start.

To support all families with the correct wearing of the College uniform, this update clarifies some areas of confusion and outlines the guidelines for the wearing the College sport uniform, across the College.

We know that these guidelines will assist you by providing clear expectations for you and your child/ren and detail the follow up process that will occur if students are regularly out of uniform.

ACADEMIC UNIFORM

ACADEMIC SCHOOL SHOES: black leather lace up shoes or buckle T-bar leather shoes.

BLAZERS: the blazer is compulsory and must be worn in Terms 2 and 3 and any other special occasion when requested.

SUNSMART

Hats are compulsory in Terms 1 and 4. Students without a hat can purchase one from the General Office. Students are also encouraged to use sunscreen and sit in the shade during break times.

SPORT UNIFORM

SOFTSHELL JACKETS: the sport softshell jacket is only to be worn with sport uniform. (Students can wear either their jumper or blazer with academic uniform in summer if they are cold.)

One of the greatest challenges to the consistent wearing of our College uniform is the number of opportunities that students have to wear their sport uniform.

Students at Coolock and St Mary’s are expected to wear their uniform within the following guidelines.

YEARS 7 & 8

  • Physical Education (practical classes only)
  • Sports training

YEAR 9

  • Physical Education (practical classes only)
  • Agriculture (double period only)
  • Leadership in Sport (double period only)
  • Active for Life (double period only)
  • Outdoor Education (only those classes that require it)

 YEAR 10

  • Physical Education (one practical double a week)
  • Permitted VET or VCE subjects

 VCE/VET UNITS 1 – 4

  • Physical Education (one practical double a week)
  • VET Agriculture
  • VET Animal Studies
  • VET Sport and Recreation (one practical double a week)

STUDENTS WHO ARE OUT OF UNIFORM

We understand that there will be times when it becomes necessary for a student to be out of uniform, but we would consider this the exception rather than the rule.

Any student who is not in full College uniform should have written permission from their parent or carer and will receive an approved uniform pass.

Students who are out of uniform without written permission will be followed up through our Student Code of Conduct and Uniform policies (you will need to log in to PAM to read these). Students will be provided with three reminders before the uniform process is escalated to written communication with families.

Should the issue continue, parents/carers will be requested to attend a meeting to develop supports to ensure the correct wearing of the College uniform.
