SCHOOL SPORT VICTORIA – SANDHURST DIVISION

Senior Boys Soccer

On Thursday 8 May, the Senior Boys Soccer Team played in the Sandhurst Senior Soccer Competition at the Epsom/Huntly soccer precinct.

The team was scheduled to play two games against local rivals – Bendigo Senior Secondary College and Castlemaine Secondary College. First up, the boys faced their strongest opposition in BSSC. Pre-game, they discussed the strength of the BSSC team but were determined to apply pressure, move the ball around and take any opportunity that presented, especially early on in the match, to try and catch BSSC off guard. Despite their strategic intentions, CMCB were unable to execute any sort of tactical plays, as they were forced to defend against a strong press from BSSC. The boys did, however, defend gallantly, but were unable to suppress the onslaught for the full game. going down 3-0.

The second match, which was against Castlemaine, was a much closer game, with both teams having chances and a similar number of controlling possessions. As both teams frequently turned over possession of the ball through the midfield, the match was one of ebbs and flows. After a CMCB shot on goal went wide, Castlemaine pounced with a long clearance kick, followed by a midfield turnover which resulted in a goal for Castlemaine that was ultimately the difference between the two sides. The boys tried valiantly to get an equaliser, but with the games being just 20-minute halves, time ran out and they went down 1-0.

All students represented the College well and displayed great sportsmanship in both games.
