Term 1 ends with reflection, fun and fundaising

07/04/2023

On the final day of Term 1, the focus was on a mix of reflection and fun as we gathered as a Catholic community and enjoyed time together. Students at both Coolock and St Mary’s took part in separate Easter Liturgies, using ‘The Way of the Cross’ to provide a powerful reflection of the Easter story and to better understand the suffering, death and resurrection of Jesus ahead of Easter. Students were commended for the respectful way they took part in these reflections.

The Term 1 Spirit of Catherine Awards were announced at both these assemblies once the liturgy was finished. Congratulations to those students who were recognised for their demonstration of our Mercy Values in their daily living.

  • Year 7: Lachlan Fitzpatrick and Ellie Munro
  • Year 8: Tee Kaw Plo Soe Mya and Jacobi Kramer
  • Year 9: Rose McSweeny and Ned Howe
  • Year 10: Jaidi Jackson-Leahy and Matilda Hall
  • Year 11: Jayde Jeffery-Herbert and Joel Feeney
  • Year 12: Emilie Threlfell and Sam Breene

The St Mary’s assembly concluded with the inaugural Easter Egg Raffle which had been organised by the SRC to raise funds for Caritas. Staff and Student Advocate groups worked together to provide many generous Easter egg hampers which were gleefully taken home by the lucky winners.

Meanwhile, Coolock students took part in the 6km Caritas Ks walk after their assembly. This annual walk is not only an enjoyable way for students to spend time with their friends, but also serves as a reminder that many children throughout the world undertake long walks each day to access education and water. On returning from the walk, the students enjoyed a barbecue lunch, live music and fun activities.

At St Mary’s the students also relaxed with fun activities, music and a barbecue. As well as an enjoyable way to finish the term, the activities at both campuses have a serious note as all funds raised are in aid of Caritas Project Compassion. This year’s theme ‘For All Future Generations’ demonstrates the powerful impact each of us can have to help create lasting change for people living in some of the most vulnerable and low-income regions in the world.
