STATE SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS

On Thursday 1 May, the CMCB Swim Team competed at the SSV State Swimming Championships at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre. An early departure from Bendigo allowed the team to beat the Melbourne traffic and arrive at the venue in time to complete a warm-up and prepare for a big day of racing.

With 18 students qualifying for these State Championships, a jam-packed program awaited. All team members were keen to compete against the best in the State, as they focused on their events and on supporting each other. As the 23 events that CMCB participated in came and went, several highlights were experienced, resulting in some terrific outcomes.

State Champion

Zarah Reynolds capped off her CMCB swimming year with another brilliant meet. For the second year running, she claimed the title of individual State Champion, winning gold in both the 16-Year Girls 50m Freestyle and the 50m Backstroke.

State Champions

Our 16-Year Girls Freestyle Relay team delivered a fantastic performance. Holly Hembrow gave the team a flying start with a 28.8, touching the wall first in the first leg. Hollie Watson then maintained the lead with a stellar swim, and a seamless transition to Amelia Kelly allowed her to consolidate the now two-body-length advantage. Zarah Reynolds then powered home to secure the win for the team. Congratulations, girls, on becoming this year’s State Champions!

State Runners-up

Mila Abley swam beautifully to secure a podium finish in the 14-Year Girls 50m Breaststroke. Her time of 37.67 earned her second place and the title of State Runner-up.

Zarah Reynolds continued her strong form in the Open Age 100m Backstroke. To finish second as a Year 10 student was an incredible achievement.

Congratulations, Zarah, on becoming a State Runner-up with a time of 1:08.84.
