Stunning day of Intermediate Soccer

23/05/2024

SCHOOL SPORT VICTORIA – SANDHURST DIVISION

Intermediate Soccer

On Thursday 2 May, our Intermediate Soccer Teams represented the College at the Sandhurst Intermediate Soccer Championships. It was a stunning day, and both teams displayed incredible sportsmanship and camaraderie throughout the day.

Intermediate Boys

The Intermediate Boys team dominated the competition. Their first match was against Creek Street Christian College, and it was a terrific match. Bailey Holland successfully used his body right on the goal line to score CMCB’s first goal of the day. Ethan Pope then showed some amazing skill, nailing three more goals, often beating several players at once. It was a resounding victory 4-0.

The boys then successfully won the next match against Weeroona College 3-0, with Billy Dearricott and Ehdoe Soe as the goal scorers.

With spirits high, CMCB went into battle against Castlemaine Secondary College, who had a very strong line-up. Despite many chances throughout the game, CMCB could not convert. With only minutes left to play Castlemaine surged forward after desperately clearing another CMCB attack, and somehow managed to split the CMCB defence and kick a goal. Despite another two frantic minutes, CMCB were unable to find an equaliser and went down 1-0.

In the last match of the day the team came up against Girton Grammar School. It was another terrific performance by the boys and after regrouping from the disappointing loss from the previous game, they refocused and capped off a fantastic day, winning 2-0.

This result saw the team finish a very credible second overall.

A huge thank you to Will Chalkley who gave up his time to coach and mentor the team. Congratulations also to all players for their encouragement of each other and excellent efforts on and off the field.

Thanks also to Rylan Angove and Daniel Dilawar for being Referees for the day. Their efforts ensured that the day could go ahead and run as smoothly as it did.

Intermediate Girls

What a day of soccer and sunshine!

The girls started the day against the school that proved to be their strongest competition of the day, Castlemaine Secondary College. The team showed great determination and persistence against this team, but unfortunately went down 0-4.

In their second game, the girls found their form, working together brilliantly as a team and showing great pace and skill. They dominated play all over the field and as a result, went on to defeat Marist College Bendigo 6-0.

In the semi-final against Bendigo South East College, the game was frantic, however, no team could gain the ascendancy, despite both teams hitting the back of the net. As the match played out, numerous opportunities were missed and the match ended in a draw 1 -1, leading to a penalty shootout. Sadly, it was BSE who took the win in the end. Nevertheless, the girls played extremely well and should be very proud of their efforts.

A huge shout out and thanks to Evie Nuttall who stepped up as coach for the day, with thanks also to Emme Probert and Bronte Ellerton for running the lines all day, it was greatly appreciated.
