Spirit of Catherine Awards 2023 – Term 2

As a Mercy community, we strive to live by the values and teachings of Catherine McAuley. The prestigious Spirit of Catherine Awards recognise members of our community who epitomise the Mercy values and demonstrate Living Mercy in their words and actions.

Congratulations to the following recipients for Term 2, 2023 who were awarded at an assembly on the final day of the Term:

YEAR 7

Adam Holland

Adam is an outstanding member of the Year 7 cohort who has embraced all aspects of the Catherine McAuley College community. He is commended for demonstrating inclusiveness within the classroom. Adam has embodied the Mercy Value of Service and Courage this term, volunteering for various College events including the Grade 6 Discover Days, Encounter Day Liturgy and the Reconciliation Liturgy.

Kate Margetts

Kate is an exceptional member of the Year 7 community. She demonstrates the Mercy Values of Compassion and Respect, often asking others how they are feeling and being a good friend. She comes into every class with a smile on her face, ready to be engaged in her learning. Kate was a helper at the Grade 6 Discover Days and she volunteered to take an active role in the Encounter Day Liturgy.

YEAR 8

Maurice Nihill

Maurice always demonstrates the Mercy Value of Respect to staff and his peers. He makes people feel special, showing kindness to all in our community. Maurice is willing to put himself out to support others. He contributes positively to the classroom learning environment and all sporting teams he is associated with.

Hser K’Pru Shee

Hser demonstrates the Mercy Value of Respect as she is polite, kind and always listens. She shows Compassion by supporting her peers and helping them with their classwork. Hser consistently shows Courage by choosing to do the right thing, even if others around her do not.

YEAR 9

Sam Gibson

Sam is an excellent role model and demonstrates the Mercy values of Respect, Service and Hospitality on a daily basis. He applies himself well to his studies and is always offering to help teachers with setting up classroom activities and assisting sporting teams. Sam works well with his peers and encourages them to be involved.

Ashton Daza

Ashton demonstrates the Mercy Value of Service within our community by always finding ways to help his peers and teachers, as well as showing kindness and compassion to all he encounters. Ashton contributes to the SRC and school music and also took part in this year’s College Production. His selfless nature and care of others make him a valued member of the Year 9 cohort.

YEAR 10

Bailey Jones

Bailey is an incredibly kind and caring student. He shows a compassionate and hospitable approach to fellow staff and students. Bailey is making the most of his opportunities by working hard in class and at home. He wears the College uniform with pride and always has a smile on his face. Bailey talks positively to staff and all his teachers value his approach.

Caitlyn Kelly

Caitlyn is a model student who prioritises her studies and sets a positive example for other students to follow. Caitlyn’s teachers are very impressed with the kindness, compassion and respect shown to her peers and all staff members.

YEAR 11

Charlie Humphreys

Charlie exemplifies empathy and perseverance in all aspects of College life, quietly leading by example and demonstrating the Mercy values of Compassion and Hospitality. She helps other students to achieve their potential by encouraging and supporting them, especially if they are struggling. Charlie is respectful of all and always puts in her best effort.

Elise Long

Elise consistently lives out our Mercy Values as a kind and helpful member of the College community. She embraces the value of Compassion as she offers assistance to students and staff. Elise expresses concern for those around her who may be struggling. She demonstrates Courage as she always puts in her best effort.

YEAR 12

Kael Rainey

Kael is extremely respectful of others. He always has a smile on his face and is inclusive of those around him. He strives to do and be his best self every day, demonstrating the Mercy Values of Respect and Hospitality.

Ella Raco

Ella goes above and beyond in her leadership role. She ensures she is welcoming to all students and staff in the College community. Ella consistently demonstrates the Mercy Values of Respect, Hospitality and Service.
