Spirit of Catherine Awards 2023 – Term 1

As a Mercy community, we strive to live by the values and teachings of Catherine McAuley. The prestigious Spirit of Catherine Awards recognise members of our community who epitomise the Mercy values and demonstrate Living Mercy in their words and actions.

Congratulations to the following award winners for Term 1, 2023:

YEAR 7

Lachlan Fitzpatrick

Lachlan has fully immersed himself in what it means to be part of our Mercy community. He embodies the Mercy Values of Service and Courage by volunteering to play music at our Open Evening and by supporting his fellow students. Like Catherine, Lachlan is a wonderful role model to his peers and a very respected and valued member of our school.

Ellie Munro

Ellie is a very encouraging and inclusive member of our College community. She demonstrates the Mercy Values of Compassion and Hospitality through her kind and respectful interactions with staff and students every day. Ellie has also demonstrated her leadership skills and the value of Service through her willingness to regularly assist fellow students in her class.

YEAR 8

Tee Kaw Plo Soe Mya

Tee Kaw Plo Soe is considerate and compassionate, always willing to be involved in activities and assist others. At camp, Tee rose to physical challenges and showed courage in completing activities in an unfamiliar environment. His good grace and enthusiasm were contagious and encouraged others. He is commended on the respect he shows to all in our community and his willingness to embrace opportunity and participate fully.

Jacobi Kramer

Despite sustaining an injury this term, Jacobi has not skipped a beat. He has shown great courage and persistence in continuing to take part in many aspects of College life. On camp, Jacobi participated in most of the activities, remaining involved and helpful. He was often the first student to offer help and assistance to staff. Jacobi is commended for his persistence throughout this term.

YEAR 9

Rose McSweeney

Rose has demonstrated an excellent commitment to College life and community in her many endeavours. She volunteered at Open House, talking with families and leading tours. She is polite and welcoming and always helps others who need assistance. Rose exemplifies our Mercy value of Service every day and is a positive and outgoing role model for fellow students.

Ned Howe

Ned has demonstrated an excellent commitment to living out our Mercy values in everyday life. He is a respectful and hardworking student, who is always willing to offer help and assistance to those in need. Ned is kind, caring and thoughtful towards all in our College community. Ned exemplifies our Mercy value of Respect every day and is a positive role model for his fellow students.

YEAR 10

Jaidi Jackson-Leahy

Jaidi strives to do good and challenges himself to excel in his conduct at school, showing courage in resisting peer pressure to do otherwise. She is a well-mannered student, who is confident, positive and cheerful in his interactions with students and staff. Jaidi is respected among his peers as a leader and has impressed his teachers with his maturity and pleasant nature.

Matilda Hall

Matilda has demonstrated consistent, unassuming compassion and respect towards the residents at Bethlehem Home for the Aged. Her calm, happy and genuine interactions, particularly with a resident with dementia, have shown that Matilda lives our Mercy values through her actions and interactions. She has brought joy to others without want for recognition.

YEAR 11

Jayde Jeffery-Herbert

Jayde consistently lives out the Mercy values in the College community. She has shown Service through her involvement in the Caritas Project Compassion Launch and willingly helps and includes others in activities in her classes. Jayde has shown Courage by putting herself forward as a House Captain and is a wonderful role model to her peers.

Joel Feeney

Joel consistently lives out the Mercy values in the College community. He contributes to a welcoming environment and actively looks out for his peers. He ensures that all students are included in group activities, including students from other year levels, living the value of Hospitality. He is always respectful towards both staff and his peers.

YEAR 12

Emilie Threlfall

Emilie is always kind and patient, demonstrating the Mercy values of Compassion and Service. There are many instances of Emilie helping others and being a good friend and member of our community.

Samuel Breene

Samuel exemplifies the absolute best of our Mercy Values in every single lesson. He is diligent in his work, supportive of his peers and staff and always seeks to contribute positively to our College community.
