2nd XVIII Football

On an overcast day, our 2nd XVIII Football Team took on Bendigo Senior Secondary College in the previously named Sun Country Cup Football Competition. It was a perfect day for footy and an ideal warm-up for the boys, as they lead into the Premier League Competition early next term. This game provides a number of players not only the chance to represent our College, but also to be noticed by the Senior Coach as they push for selection in the 1st XVIII.

The boys started well and were winning plenty of the footy in the forward 50, however, they were unable to convert any of their chances. BSSC soon found their groove as they turned the run of play their way. Despite the efforts of the defenders, BSSC were able to kick 4 goals to 0 in the first quarter as they took advantage of the mildly windy conditions.

The second quarter was a better one for the CMC boys. They were able to stop the run of BSSC goals, apply pressure all over the field, start to run in numbers, and finally, in the latter part of the term, kicked 2 goals to get on the board, whilst restricting BSSC to just one goal.

The third term was another good and consistent quarter for the boys as they kicked 2 goals 4 to BSSC’s 1 goal 1. The pressure on the opposition at all the contests was starting to take effect as they began to dominate play, however, it was their wayward kicking that unfortunately let them down. At the end of the term, the boys were down by just 12 points, with 20 minutes of play remaining.

The start of the final term was frantic, with both teams looking to score. In the end, CMC kicked 1 goal 3 to BSSC’s 1 goal 2, to go down by 11 points in a very entertaining game – 5-9-39 to 7-8-50.

Thank you to Mr Andrew Wild for coaching the boys and to all the helpers that assisted on the day.
