SCHOOL SPORT VICTORIA – SANDHURST DIVISION

Senior Boys Tennis

On Tuesday 7 March, the Senior Boys tennis team competed in the Sandhurst Senior Tennis Tournament at Bendigo Regional Tennis Centre. All players participated in one singles and one doubles match, per round.

The boys had a tough start to the day, coming up against eventual winners, Marist College Bendigo. Despite the doubles being a little one-sided, the singles matches were all very close, with Lucas the sole winner, 6 games to 5.

The second round against Girton Grammar was a more closely contested match with the doubles one set each. The singles matches were very closely contested with a high standard of tennis played. Josh scored a 6 games to 2 victory and both Flynn and Oliver fought out close matches, losing 6 games to 4.

Round 3 saw the boys come up against Castlemaine Secondary College. Although Castlemaine was a strong opponent, they had to forfeit three sets, resulting in three sets each.

The final round of the day was against Bendigo Senior Secondary College and the CMC boys took out three out of four of the singles, with Oliver and Lucas winning 6 games to love and Josh 6 games to 4. Despite carrying a back injury, Flynn only just went down – 6 games to 4. The doubles finished with one set all and the matches were played in very good spirits.

The boys thoroughly enjoyed the day and they are to be commended for their sportsmanship, particularly their very positive interactions with their opponents on and off the court

It was a terrific finish to a great day with the team finishing 3rd overall. Special thanks to Ms Kristen Simpson for looking after the team and Maree Pearce for organising the day.
