Cricket – Senior Boys

The Catherine McAuley College Bendigo Senior cricket team travelled to Echuca on Tuesday 5 March to compete in the LMR stage of competition.

St Mary of the Angels, Nathalia won the toss and elected to bat first. Jasper Irwin was straight into the game picking up a wicket in the opening over, and it wasn’t long before he had his second and third. Tobie Travaglia made an impact in the 4th over, taking consecutive wickets. Irwin and Travaglia were fantastic in restricting Nathalia to 6/30 at the end of their spells, with both bowlers claiming 3 wickets.

Some important late-order partnerships and handy boundaries enabled Nathalia to build a competitive total of all out for 90 after their allotted 14 overs.

Xavier Grant and Wil Pinniger got the run-chase off to a positive start with a 34-run opening stand, before Pinniger was run out to a superb direct hit. Grant followed shortly later for 18 to leave CMCB at 2/43.

Hugh Behrens batted smartly through the middle of the innings to top-score with 26 and put CMCB in a good position to win the game. The required target was 30 off 30 balls came down to 7 runs required off the last over. Unfortunately, some clever bowling from Nathalia prevented the CMCB batters from chasing down the target and Nathalia won by just 3 runs.

This is the end of the senior cricket campaign for 2024 and we thank all the boys for their efforts. Thank you to Julianne Hewitt for scoring and to Maree Pearce for all her work organising the team.
