Ready To Read – Building Strong Habits in Year 7
16/05/2025At our school, we believe that reading is the cornerstone of academic success. That’s why we’ve introduced the Ready To Read program for all Year 7 students.
As part of this initiative, students begin every class with a few minutes of silent reading. This simple, consistent practice helps improve focus, vocabulary, comprehension, and a lifelong love of reading. It also offers a quiet moment to settle into the learning environment, setting a positive tone for the lesson ahead.
To support the success of this program, it is essential that every student carries a reading book with them to every class – just as they do with their laptop and pencil case. This habit ensures they are always prepared to participate and benefit from this daily reading routine.
We kindly ask parents and carers to help reinforce this expectation at home. Please check that your child has a book in their bag each day and encourage them to choose titles that interest and challenge them.
Whether it’s a novel, biography, or non-fiction title, every page read is a step forward in their learning journey. Thank you for your support in helping our Year 7 students become confident, capable, and enthusiastic readers!
