The Trade Training Centre (TTC) is bustling with activity following the arrival of many new baby animals, from the Polwarth sheep to Angus Friesian Heifers and Isa chickens. Students across all year levels are developing respect, empathy, responsibility and their self-esteem by actively caring for these animals.
Showtime in Agriculture
Our VET Agriculture students were on show in the pavilion of the TTC on Thursday.
As part of their Plan to Exhibit Livestock unit, the students have been learning about showmanship and animal preparation and presentation. This experience has enhanced their animal handling skills and prepares our livestock for the up and coming Sheep and Wool Show and Bendigo Show.
On show were our two Dexter cattle and several Polwarth sheep, under the experienced eye of judge Mrs Gaye Whitehead.
The handlers are judged as much as the animals at a show. Mrs Whitehead gave some valuable tips on posture, holding the leads correctly and leading the animals. She also commended our students for their skills when the cows became restless after walking in circles so many times!
Congratulations to our winners on the day and a huge thank you to Mrs Whitehead for returning to the TTC and giving us her expertise as judge. We also appreciate the senior staff who made the time to visit. Special thanks as well to Todd White in Year 7, who was a very capable steward, also Indi Crone was the MC.
