Three days of music results in best-ever concert

The CMC Music department held its annual Music Camp from 6 to 8 November. The Music wing of the SAM building was abuzz, with sounds, instruments and people moving everywhere. A total of 85 students participated across the three days.

On Wednesday, the students involved in the Concert Bands rehearsed through new and known repertoire, in preparation for their visit to Mercy Bethlehem Aged Care.

Thursday brought in students from the Guitar Ensembles and the Rock Bands. Morning rehearsals for our massed choir item had everyone singing together. In the afternoon, our guitar and rock band students perfected their items for Friday’s concert, while the Choir and Concert Band students visited Mercy Aged Care. The residents were very impressed with our performances with comments of ‘that was beautiful’ and ‘encore’ being shouted from the front row.

Friday was our biggest day with an 8:30am beginning, rehearsals all day and a shared pizza dinner in the evening. Poor weather meant the performance space had to be moved from McAuley Square to the Drama Space in SAM. Students helped with the bump in of equipment and sound checking before enjoying a break.

The concert was our best yet, with performances from: choirs, all-in singing, Rock Bands, the Stage Band, junior, senior and combined guitar ensembles, Junior and Senior Concert Band and a massed band. The variety and quality of performances was great and to a high standard. Feedback from parents and families was glowing – a credit to our students’ hard work and our staff for their efforts in keeping the energy high over the three days.

A massive congratulations to everyone involved and well done on your efforts over the three days. Let’s do it all again sometime!
