The Mollie Sandner Tennis Cup for Intermediate Girls (Years 9 & 10) was held on Friday 3 March, in conjunction with the Kel Pell Tennis Cup for the Intermediate Boys (Years 9 & 10). The matches were held concurrently at the Fosterville Tennis Centre in Nolan St in beautiful conditions.

Mollie Sandner Cup – Girls

Catherine McAuley College was thrilled with the fabulous win by the talented girls’ team who won the Mollie Sandner Cup by defeating every team in the competition. The victory of such a prestigious and respected competition was extra special, as this was the 80th time that the Mollie Sandner Cup had been played.

CMC defeated Girton Grammar School – 2 sets 15 games to 1 set 11 games

The conditions were ideal all day, with all matches played in good spirits. The enthusiasm and obvious tennis talent shown by all players was a delight to watch.

The girls were delighted to receive the trophy and thanked Alec Sandner who had travelled from Geelong to present the Cup. All the girls later commented on the lovely speech Alec made, which reflected on why his late mother, Mollie Sandner began the competition in the latter part of WWII.

Kel Pell Trophy – Boys

The boys also had a great day, winning some matches, but also struggling against some teams. This was reflected in their results, however, their consistency in being able to win multiple games in most matches saw them finish a very credible second. It was pleasing to see the boys try their hardest all day and representing the College proudly.
