05/09/2019

Mercy Day

We look forward to celebrating Mercy Day on Thursday 19 September.

Students are encouraged to dress in house colours and engage in the many fun activities to create awareness and raise funds for Mercy Works.

Mercy Day Wristbands – Prepayment Dates

Thank you to students who have already pre-purchased wrist bands to support Mercy Works and in anticipation of Mercy Day.

There is a catch-up day scheduled at Coolock on Monday 9 September and St Mary’s on Monday 16 September.

The Spirit of Catherine Awards

These awards provide the opportunity to acknowledge members of our community who model the Mercy values through their words and actions. Thank you to those students who took the time to nominate people.

Traditionally, these awards have been presented only on Mercy Day. However, they will continue to be awarded each term from now on.  Students in each year level will be recognised and presented with their awards at a whole College event each term, with the opportunity for parents to attend.

The opportunity for students to nominate via a link on Simon will continue each term.

Season of Creation

The Season of Creation is celebrated each year, beginning on 1 September and concluding on 4 October which is the feast of St Francis of Assisi.  The theme for this year’s celebration is The Web of Life.  Pope Francis, in his encyclical, Laudato Si’ challenges us to “Care for our Common Home”, particularly those dependent on the land for survival.  During the Season of Creation, we are invited to a spirit of ecological conversion and actively hope for solutions.  Each week has a different theme, noted below, with a reflection from Pope Francis on Oceans.

  • 1 September: Oceans
  • 8 September: Flora and Fauna
  • 15 September: Storms
  • 22 September: Animals

Oceans contain the bulk of our planet’s water supply, and also most of the immense variety of living creatures, many of them are threatened for various reasons.

Creation is a project of love given by God to humanity.

Our solidarity with the “common home” is born from our faith.

Let us pray this month that politicians, scientists and economists work together to protect the world’s seas and oceans.

(Pope Francis, September 2019)

This is a beautiful resource with a thought or action for each day. A great addition to your fridge for this month.

Prayer For Our Earth

Mercy International Association Prayer Intention: Care for Creation

Pope Francis’ message for the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation emphasises that ‘this is the season for letting our prayer be inspired anew by closeness to nature, which spontaneously leads us to give thanks to God the Creator.’
