Mercy Day 2023 – Be Bright, Be Inspired, Have Fun!

15/08/2023

Mercy Day is the biggest whole school celebration of the year, where we celebrate the origins of the College and the Mercy Values. It also coincides with the formal beginnings of Catherine McAuley’s ministry, when she opened her house in Dublin.

It is also our biggest fundraiser for Mercy Works, our Term 3 Social Justice focus. All the money that students spend (including their gold coin donation in the morning) goes towards Mercy Works.

On Mercy Day, we have a liturgy in the morning and present the Spirit of Catherine Awards for Term 3. After the liturgy, we will commence the fundraising carnival where there are carnival rides, stalls and activities and food like hot chips, donuts, pizza and hotdogs and more.

Everyone is encouraged to dress in their house colours and think of creative costumes – the brighter the better!

Mercy Works – Term 3 Social Justice Focus

Established in 2000, Mercy Works is the development arm of the Sisters of Mercy in Australia and Papua New Guinea. They work in partnership with vulnerable communities and local organisations domestically and in the Philippines, Papua New Guinea and Timor-Leste. They work with people of these communities and organisations to build capacity and self-reliance.

Throughout the next five weeks, we will learn more about the programs they have established in these areas. Last year, our College raised a massive $17,000 that went directly to these projects.
