Laptop returns and changeover

27/09/2021

Catherine McAuley College operates with a 3-year loan agreement on our student laptops. The devices of students in Year 9 and Year 12 are reaching the end of this agreement. To support us with the changeover of devices (Year 9) and return of devices (Year 12) please be aware of the following return dates to the St Mary’s IT Office:

  • Year 9 Students Laptop Return: Wednesday 1 December (The Year 9 students will be at St Mary’s for Headstart). Current Year 9 students will receive a new device at the start of 2022 for use in Year 10 until the end of their CMC studies in 2024.
  • Year 12 Students Laptop Return: Any date prior to close of business Friday 3 December

We ask you to take a moment to examine your child’s laptop before its return, to see for yourself what condition it is in, paying particular attention to any dints, scratches and chips. This may give you an indication that a charge is likely to be applied against the laptop.

As per the Student and Parent ICT Acceptable Use Agreement, if your child’s laptop has sustained damage and requires repair, a charge will be calculated using the table below and will not exceed the insurance excess of $150.

Please use the list below as a guide for repair costs:

  • HP G5 Back cover – $82.50
  • HP G5 Base enclosure – $83.90
  • HP G5 Bezel LCD – $99.00
  • HP G5 Keyboard – $132.00
  • HP G5 LCD Panel – $130.20
  • HP G5 Top cover – $93.50
  • Non-return of HP 65W Charger – $33.00
  • Non-return of laptop bag – $40.00

The cost of repairs will be advised by letter. You will then have the option of either:

  • Purchasing the laptop for $140; or
  • Having the amount charged to your school fees account. The amount will not exceed the insurance excess of $150.

Families may decide to purchase their child’s device for $140 in its current condition from 4 October. The cost includes the laptop, laptop bag, charger and a fresh install of Windows 10. To purchase the device you will need to know the serial number (eg 5CD000000) located on the base of the device or contact IT. Please contact the Finance Office on 5445 9191 to arrange payment. Once payment has been made and the student has backed up their data, take the laptop to the St Mary’s IT Office to be reimaged back to its original condition.
