Koorie Youth Flick Fest 2025
28/05/2025MY MOB, MY PLACE
On Tuesday 27 May, at the launch of the Central Victorian Indigenous Film Festival (CVIFF) in the Bendigo Library, a very special screening of all winning Koorie Youth Flick Fest films from the last five years was held and the 2025 winners were announced. This was part of the National Reconciliation Week celebrations.
Congratulations to the two Catherine McAuley College Bendigo (CMCB) students who were honoured for their fabulous films this year – Cohen Barker (Winner) and Chelsea Korp (Honourable Mention). Both created very polished and moving films with strong, personal story lines.
The local judging panel was looking for films up to three minutes in length which highlighted storytelling, creativity and originality on the 2025 theme of ‘My mob, my place’.
Cohen received a certificate, gift bag and prize of $1000. He will also have the honour of his film being shown on the big screen in Fed Square, Melbourne during NAIDOC Week.
The event was emceed by Chelsea Hill of YO Bendigo, who acknowledged the many people who have been dedicated to making this competition possible over the past five years. Chelsea made special mention of Hector Miller (a former teacher at CMCB) who was involved from the beginning but sadly passed away earlier this year.
The Koorie Youth Flick Fest is made possible by the support of Bundadhaany Studios, the City of Greater Bendigo and YO Bendigo.
Thank you to all involved in providing this opportunity for First Nations people under 25 years old living in Central Victoria to tell their story.
