SCHOOL SPORT VICTORIA – SANDHURST DIVISION

Intermediate Boys Football

Our boys were greeted with a fantastic day of sunshine at Epsom Huntly Rec Reserve for the Sandhurst Intermediate day of competition on Thursday 15 June.

Our first game was against Bendigo South East College. The boys kicked into action immediately working hard at stoppages and giving the forwards plenty of chances. In the first half, goals were kicked by Llogan Mayman, Darby Whately and Madden Guthrie, whilst BSE could manage just one goal.

Following a few positional changes at the half, our boys continued to press forward and attack in the second half with goals to Taj Taylor, Miller Nihill, Ben Miller, Kade Hutchinson and Ollie Stewart.

Best players: Oscar Cail, Ollie Stewart, Tye Allan, Madden Guthrie
Final score: CMC 9.6.60 to BSE 1.0.6

Next was a big game against Marist College Bendigo. It was an even battle for the first half with neither team kicking a goal, however, Marist did manage a few points. Kicking with the wind in the second half, the boys got on top and were able to kick goals through Dusty Crawford, Lachie Wilson, Ben Miller and Charlie Bannan. The boys fought out this game very well against a spirited opposition.

Best players: Dusty Crawford, Taj Taylor, Charlie Duke, Zane Connick
Final score: CMC 4.1.25 to Marist 0.3.3

The final game for the day was against Girton Grammar School who really took it up to the CMC boys in what was a tight encounter from the outset. As the heavy legs set in from both teams, it was evident that this game could go either way after a goalless first half. Girton came out early in the second half and kicked the first goal and put the pressure on the boys to deliver. Caleb Tobin was able to get on the end of a great chain of play for the boys to deliver the equaliser. On top of this, the CMC forwards peppered the goals without any luck but it was enough to win the game by 6 points.

Best players: Ben Millar, Lenny McNamara, Charlie Duke, Jack Harvey
Final score: CMC 1.6.12 to Girton 1.0.06

The boys should be proud of the way they played and represented the College at this event. They now move on to the Loddon Mallee Regional Finals to be played on Wednesday 26 July in Swan Hill.

A big thank you to Maree Pearce, Holly Speed and Mr Barnes for their assistance and hard work on the day and in the lead-up to the event, along with the helpers who assisted.
