Intermediate Boys Football
On Friday 20 June, a beautiful winter’s day in Junortoun, the CMCB Intermediate Boys Football team delivered a dominant performance in the Sandhurst Division Intermediate Football competition. With fantastic teamwork and skill on full display, the team emerged undefeated across all three matches.
Game 1: CMCB 9.6.60 defeated Marist College Bendigo 3.5.23
After a scrappy start to this game, the boys slowly started to work together as a team to eventually hit their stride. Their persistence to try and link up handballs through the midfield, particularly in the second half, produced some terrific passages of play as they became more disciplined with their ball use. As a result, they were able to run away with the game, to finish as comfortable winners.
Game 2: CMCB 4.6.30 defeated Bendigo South East College 3.2.20
Game 2 was a much tighter contest against a strong team from BSE. Under intense pressure, the boys were able to hold their nerve against a determined opposition. BSE started faster and better, but the boys showed resilience and composure to not only stem the flow of BSE’s attacking moves but also convert their own opportunities late in the first half, as they hit the lead. The team then continued to convert 2 more goals and in turn, were able to defend strongly in the final minutes to secure the win.
Game 3: CMCB 9.8.62 defeated Crusoe College 2.2.14
The final game was a showcase of CMCB’s attacking flair and team cohesion. Crisp ball use and relentless pressure overwhelmed Crusoe, allowing CMCB to finish the day on a high note with their biggest win of the day. This all-round team performance was great to watch as the benefit of time playing together as a team was evident in their seamless coordination, mutual understanding, and confident execution under pressure.
The team has now qualified for the Loddon Mallee Regional stage of competition, which is to be played on Monday 28 July in Swan Hill.
