Intermediate Boys
Preliminary Rounds
On Friday 25 March, the Catherine McAuley College Bendigo Year 9/10 Intermediate Cricket team competed in the Sandhurst Division at our Coolock Campus, playing matches against Crusoe College and East Loddon P-12 College.
In Game 1, against East Loddon, the boys won the toss and decided to bat. Tyce Griffin started the game superbly, making a quickfire 15 and showing intent out in the middle. Jaxon Kelly came in at number 3 and was the pick of the batters, making 78 runs. Jaxon was hitting the ball all over the ground, making it hard for the East Loddon bowlers to settle. The boys ended up making 201 off 15 overs in a dominant display. In reply, East Loddon struggled to score against a disciplined CMCB bowling attack, who were able to take regular wickets. East Loddon were bowled out for 31, in what was an even bowling performance from CMCB, where all the bowlers shared wickets.
Game 2 was against Crusoe College. Crusoe College won the toss and decided to bat. Charlie Macumber set the tone early with the ball, making it hard for Crusoe to score. Once again, the CMCB bowling line-up were disciplined and bowled a good line and length throughout the innings. In response, the boys started off the innings superbly. Griffin O’Shea led the way with a brilliant 57 not out. Griffin rotated the strike regularly and ran hard between the wickets. He was well supported by Zavier Ralphs, making a quickfire 38, which included some big sixes. Another comfortable win resulted, putting the team on top of their Pool.
This result saw the team qualify for the Sandhurst Division Final against BSE.
Sandhurst Final
The final of the Sandhurst Division Intermediate Boys Cricket Competition was played on Tuesday 1 April against Bendigo South East College, and was once again played at CMCB. As it was the only game for the day, the boys played a full 20/20.
The day started well with Riley Travaglia winning the toss and electing to bowl. Charlie Macumber could not have started the game any better, knocking over the opening batsman with the first ball of the day. Riley Travaglia kept that momentum and was relentless with the ball, making it very hard for the BSE batsman to score, finishing with 3/2 off 3 overs. BSE did manage to bat out their 20 overs, finishing with 93 runs off their 20 overs.
In response, CMCB were meticulous with their run chase, making the 94 runs required in the 14th over. All batters contributed evenly throughout the innings, with Griffin O’Shea top scoring with 26 runs.
The boys performed superbly over the two days of competition, and we congratulate them on their fantastic results. They have now qualified for the Loddon Mallee Regional Finals, which will be played early in Term 4.
