Honouring National Reconciliation Week Throughout June

18/06/2025

National Reconciliation Week Bridging Now to Next

27 May to 3 June 2025

As part of National Reconciliation Week, Stephen Korp and Renae McCaig, our Koorie Education Workers, and their team of student chefs conducted a popular lunchtime event by cooking Johnny Cakes at Coolock. Extending from National Reconciliation Week, the College will honour the contributions of First Nations peoples and examine how we can each contribute to meaningful reconciliation by running activities throughout the month of June.

12 June 2025: Indigenous Meat Tasting

St Mary’s community enjoyed an unforgettable taste of culture when they had the opportunity to come and try some Indigenous meats on Thursday 12 June. The aroma of barbecue drew plenty of students and staff to St Michael’s Lawn to try  the delicious sample portions of freshly cooked kangaroo.

Johnny Cakes at Coolock

Our Koorie Education Workers and helpers were kept at it with a huge turn out of students at Coolock wanting to try Johnny Cakes.

National Sorry Day 26 May 2025

On National Sorry Day, we pause to remember and honour the Stolen Generations – Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children who were forcibly removed from their families, communities and country under past government policies.

National Sorry Day is a day to acknowledge the strength of Stolen Generation Survivors and reflect on how we can all play a part in the healing process for our people and nation. As a school community, grounded in mercy, we are committed to actively walking alongside our First Nations People towards reconciliation and truth telling.

PRAYER

Let us pray, God of Justice,

We come to seek your guidance, wisdom and compassion

As we pray for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who have been wronged in the past.

May our hearts be open to receive your healing grace,

So that we in turn bring healing to each other.

We ask this prayer through Christ, our Lord.

Amen.
