Gold and silver at the Loddon Mallee Regional Swimming Carnival

SCHOOL SPORT VICTORIA: LODDON MALLEE REGION

Congratulations to all our swimmers who competed at the Loddon Mallee Regional Swimming Championships in Swan Hill on Thursday 18 March. In beautiful conditions, our thirteen representatives were very impressive against their competition, with every swimmer taking home at least one medal for the day. Special mention to Layla Day who won all five of her individual events plus two relays to take home seven gold medals for the day.

In brief – the College had thirteen students compete in twenty-four of ninety-eight events. Our students achieved eleven gold and eight silver medals, with one fourth place, qualifying CMC in third place overall. What an incredible achievement!

1st PLACE

  • Layla Day: 18-20yr Girls – 50m Butterfly, 50m Backstroke, 50m Backstroke; 16-20yr Girls – 100m Freestyle; Open Girls – 100m Backstroke
  • Ella Downing: 16-20yr Girls – 200m Freestyle; Open Girls – 100m Butterfly
  • April Downing: 13yr Girls – 50m Butterfly
  • Varlee Nihill: 18-20yr Girls – 50m Breast stroke
  • Henry Allan: 13yr Boys – 50m Butterfly, 50m Backstroke
  • 12-14Yr Boys Medley Relay (Miller Nihill, Henry Allan, Thomas Davie, Charlie Bannan)
  • 17-20yr Girls Medley Relay (Varlee Nihill, Layla Day, Ella Downing, Telani Bibby)
  • 13yr Boys 4 x 50m Freestyle Relay (Miller Nihill, Jackson Hetherton, Charlie Bannan, Henry Allan)
  • 18-20yr Girls 4 x 50m Freestyle Relay (Varlee Nihill, Layla Day, Ella Downing, Telani Bibby)

2nd PLACE

  • Lacey Wilkie: 13yr Girls – 50m Breast stroke
  • Miller Nihill: 13yr Boys – 50m Breast stroke
  • Ella Downing: 16yr Girls – 50m Butterfly; 16-20yr Girls – 200m Individual Medley
  • Henry Allan: 13yr Boys  – 50m Freestyle
  • Telani Bibby: 15yr Girls – 50m Freestyle
  • April Downing: 13yr Girls – 50m Backstroke
  • 13yr Girls 4 x 50m Relay (Ava Terry, Lilly Hope, Lacey Wilkie, April Downing)

4th PLACE

  • Lacey Wilkie: 13yr Girls – 50m Freestyle

These are incredible results for our thirteen competitors. In the Overall School results, our Swim Team finished third on the day amongst all the schools that competed. Congratulations again to every single representative on your incredible efforts and results.

Good luck to the nine students who have now qualified for the School Sports Victoria State Swimming Finals to be held at the Melbourne Sports Centre on Thursday 22 April.
