Gallery Visits for VCE Art Making and Exhibiting

27/02/2025

The students in VCE Art Making and Exhibiting have been out and about exploring the vibrant arts precinct in View Street, Bendigo.

For their classes, each of the Unit 1 and Unit 3 students were given the opportunity to see firsthand how different art galleries target different audiences and offer opportunities for the artists in the region to exhibit their work.  Unit 1 students were investigating how artists used art materials in traditional ways, as seen in the work by Agnus Goodsir. They then compared how emerging artists push the boundaries of traditional approaches to artmaking when they visited the La Trobe Arts Institute. While there, they explored an exhibition called ‘Parched’. The students used this excursion as a springboard for their own creative practice back in class. Now they are looking at making a series of artworks in Photography, Painting and Ceramics that explore their own theme.

Unit 3, students explored the ways that artworks are shown in exhibitions and within themes. The work they will do this semester responds to their own research and will result in them producing a body of work that reflects the theme they develop from their research. We are looking forward to seeing their work evolve throughout the semester. With sixteen in the class, there should be a broad range of ideas forthcoming.
