Footy ends in Moama for Senior Girls
29/05/2025SCHOOL SPORT VICTORIA – LODDON MALLEE REGIONAL FINALS
Senior Girls Football
On Wednesday 21 May, our Senior Girls Football Team headed interstate to Moama to compete at the SSV Regional Football Finals. After the late withdrawal of the team from Mildura, the girls were scheduled to play just one game for the day, which was against St Joseph’s College Echuca. Despite the team missing several key players due to injury and unavailability, the girls were still determined to put on a good show.
The game started evenly with Echuca kicking the first goal, as well as a few behinds, but then the class of Ava Franklin and Tess Mills saw CMCB kick consecutive goals mid-way through the half to take the lead. The girls were putting up a great fight in all positions, however St Joseph’s seemed to be able to find that extra time and space and began to dominate possession and kicked another two goals for the half to go into the break with an 11-point lead.
After a halftime reset, the girls went back on the field full of spirit, but kicking into the wind saw them struggle to hit the scoreboard. St Joseph’s however, were quite clinical with some of their ball movement, and as a result, the CMCB defence found it hard to stop their run. Although the margin blew out to 50 points, the gameplay by the CMCB girls saw them create many opportunities, but they just couldn’t convert.
Despite the loss, the girls still played some terrific football, and their efforts never wavered. Congratulations girls on a terrific performance.
Thanks to all the helpers for the day, especially Jake Schubert, who came along as the Runner.
