ELAP Students Present Enlightening Science Fair

16/06/2022

The annual ELAP Science Fair on Thursday 16 June was the culmination of the term’s Science studies for the English Language Assistance Program (ELAP).

Students from Coolock and St Mary’s campuses gathered in the Marian Centre to exhibit and present the results of their science experiments and projects.

The projects were varied, from rubber band boats, paper rollercoasters, a balloon-powered car and a ball launcher, to investigations into slowing apple browning, mould growth on strawberries, whether a potato and apple can charge a smart phone and does manure really help marigolds grow faster?

The Science Fair was attended by students, staff and parents, starting with viewing each project exhibited in the Marian Foyer. The audience then moved into the Marian Theatre for the presentations.

The students courageously took turns at the lectern to speak about their project, using PowerPoint presentations to illustrate the results. Many students even presented in two languages, ensuring that all of us went away better informed about science.

Congratulations to all the students from the English Language Assistance Program on a very enlightening afternoon of science.

A big thank you to Ms Stephanie Dole, Mr Rod Kerr and all the staff in the ELAP Team for their support of the students and the 2022 Science Fair.
