Cross Country team runs out winners
19/05/2025SCHOOL SPORT VICTORIA – SANDHURST DIVISION
Cross Country
The Sandhurst Division Cross Country took place in perfect running conditions on Friday 9 May, at the Sebastian Recreation Reserve. Forty-six dedicated CMCB students participated in the competition, demonstrating determination and enthusiasm throughout the entire event.
Our 17-20 Year Boys were up first, running the 5km track, and they really set the tone for the younger members of the team. Charle Bannan ran an exceptional race on the back of limited training to place 2nd, whilst Kobie MacDonald (6th) and Charlie Bombardieri (9th) finished in the top 10.
Tess Mills was the standout runner in the 17-20 Year Girls race as she blew her opposition away in the last 500m to win by over 9 seconds. Neve Pinner also ran well to place 8th.
Grace Mulqueen effortlessly navigated the 3km course in the 16 Year Girls race, as she ran at pace with a runner from Bendigo Senior Secondary College. Both girls crossed the line at the same time, however, Grace graciously allowed her fellow competitor to take the top spot. Zarah Reynolds also capped off a fine run to place 5th.
The 16 Year Boys race was very well contested, with all three of our entrants finishing in the top 10: Griffin O’Shea 4th, Coby Hilson 8th and Brooklyn Smith 9th.
The 15 Year Girls showcased their talent with Imogen Brown running a professional race, claiming victory in a time of 11:42. She was closely followed by Zara Mould in 2nd. Erin Bradshaw (5th), Alexis Arundell (6th) and Jess Wilson (9th) to round out a great team performance, and in combination they placed 1st in the Teams event.
An impressive run by our 15 Year Boys team was also a highlight, with all five runners finishing in the top 10. Jake Rosa 3rd, Quinlan Cody 4th, Cash Caldis 5th, Oliver Lorrain 7th and Charlie Macumber 10th saw them also win their Teams event.
Mila Childs competed fearlessly, giving her all to not only secure a first-place position but also claim the prestigious title of fastest female of the day with a time of 11.41 seconds. April Wainwright was not too far behind as she finished strongly to secure 3rd, while Molly Beasly, 4th, Lily McKee 7th, Marlee Skinner 8th and Belle Howes 9th, combined for another Team victory.
Byron Martin was our standout runner in the 14 Year Boys race as he placed 3rd. Jimi Read ran solidly to finish in 5th with Jensen McDonnell not far behind in 6th. Jobe Hutchinson in 8th and Hamish Jones in 10th, in another strong performance from CMCB.
The 13 Year Girls put on a master class of running as they blitzed the field, as once again our first five runners finished in the top 10. Poppy Carter 3rd, Lyla Muir 4th, Darcy Rodda 5th, Macaila Bannan 6th, Vaida Penno 8th. With the addition of Emily Harris, who finished a credible 13th, they took out the Teams event.
The 13 Year Boys competed against some great competition, and all put in a fantastic run. The best-placed runners in this group were Tommy Harrop, 5th and Preston Anfuso, 8th.
