Family Tours and Learning Walks

It was a pleasure to welcome several new and prospective families to this week’s Coolock Tour. These tours allow our visitors to see firsthand some of the programs and opportunities that we have at Catherine McAuley College (CMC). Visitors are always greatly impressed by the depth and breadth of opportunities, but what often has the most impact is the positive interactions they have with our staff and students. Frequently, visitors make comments regarding the warm welcome and offers of support. The next tour will take place on Tuesday 27 November at 9am. Please book via email to Mrs Audra Petri, College Registrar: apetri@cmc.vic.edu.au.

What opportunities exist for current families to learn more about what is taking place in our College?

Learning Walks are designed to allow parents to discover more about what is happening in an everyday class at our College. In this session, parents have the opportunity to see the College in operation and how the students are learning. After the visit the group is asked to reflect on the experience and share their observations with other participants.

As a vibrant College community, we continue to develop and foster active partnerships with our families as we work with you to support the growth and learning of our young people.

Learning Walks provide a wonderful chance for families to come into the classrooms and experience learning in the world of our students today.

Numbers for each Learning Walk are limited. Interested in attending? Our Term 4 Learning Walk will take place on Wednesday 14 November from 9 – 10.30am. Please book via email to Mrs Audra Petri, College Registrar: apetri@cmc.vic.edu.au.

Transition for Year 7, 2019

It was a pleasure to welcome some of our 2019 Year 7 students this week as they attended an additional session to support their transition to CMC. Thanks, and congratulations to Mrs Angela McIntosh and Mrs Therese Lynch for organising the day.

Senior staff continue to visit our local primary schools to learn more about the best ways to support students as they transition to our College. We look forward to welcoming the entire Year 7 Class of 2019 on Monday 4 December for Orientation Day.

Year 8 Formation Day

Our inaugural Year 8 Formation Day was a great success. The day was developed following the participation of fourteen students in the Cricket Victoria Girls Leadership Day that occurred in Ballarat earlier this year. The participants from that experience were so passionate about its impact that they pushed for the same opportunity to be offered to their entire year level.

We partnered with Cricket Victoria and Sport & Life Training (SALT) to develop a full day program for our students. The day commenced with a panel conversation that explored leadership and the challenges life can throw at people. We welcomed past student and Cricket Victoria contracted player, Xavier Crone who was accompanied by Molly Strano, Australian Women’s cricketer and former AFL Footballer, Coach and Administrator, Guy McKenna.

Students were divided into smaller single-sex groups and participated in sessions based around:

  • Personal Values
  • Leadership
  • Resilience
  • ‘Can do’ mindset
  • Mindfulness
  • Gender equity
  • Social 6ers
  • Physical activity

Congratulations to the Year 8 students on a great day and thanks to Cricket Victoria, SALT, Mr Len Watson, Miss Cara Lewis and Mrs Bekk Tyrell on their organisation of the day.
