CMCB Swimming Carnival 2024

28/02/2024

What an incredible day! One full of colour, fun, competition and amazing participation. Congratulations to all students who attended this year’s fabulous Swimming Carnival – your enthusiastic participation across the day was fantastic to see.

The day started with the House Chants, with all houses in fine form following some dedicated rehearsals at house assemblies the week prior. Despite a strong challenge by Djaara and MacKillop, the very well-rehearsed and inventive chant from Champagnat won them the points. Their “new age” chant was received well, as they seamlessly combined an old tune with Champagnat-specific lyrics to impress the judges.

Fashions on the Pool Deck was also an impressive show, with an incredible number of students putting in enormous effort and displaying brilliant design ideas – congratulations to all the finalists. The results were as follows:

BOYS

  • 1st place: Backhaus cheerleaders
  • 2nd place: Champagnat boys
  • 3rd place: Nick from McAuley

GIRLS

  • 1st place: McAuley Abba girls
  • 2nd place: MacKillop pyjama girls
  • 3rd place: Champagnat fairies

It was then time to hit the pool for the traditional swimming and novelty events including the Tug-O-War Competitions and the Egg and Spoon Splash and Dash. The Best Bomb again proved popular with hundreds keen to show their bombing style. The T-Shirt Relay was very entertaining for the younger year levels, as all competitors battled hard to trade the wet shirt efficiently. Jumping Sack Races saw the teams with impeccable teamwork take out the points on offer.

The swimming events continued throughout the afternoon with some great performances. The enthusiastic participation from the Year 12s saw the groups swim with impeccable synchronisation.  The combined Year 7 to 12 Boys and Girls Relay events were a highlight at the end of the program. The grand finale was the traditional Year 12 Leap of Faith followed by the newly-introduced Fastest 50m. This event in the main pool for all to watch and enjoy showcased some of our best swimmers’ incredible talent.

LEAP OF FAITH

  • Winner – Boys: Tait Rojewski (Djaara)
  • Winner – Girls: Kiara Field (Champagnat)

  • Winner – Boys: Miller Nihill, Year 10 (Vincent) 30.10 secs
  • Winner – Girls: Telani Bibby, Year 12 (Djaara) 31.01 secs

With all events complete it was time to announce the overall champions for 2024, the Year Level Champions followed by the House Champion.
