Carlton AFLW Players Visit Coolock

20/06/2024

On Wednesday morning, 19 June, our Years 7 to 9 female football players were thrilled to have the opportunity to meet and have a Q & A session with three Carlton AFLW players. The girls were excited and keen to ask the players a myriad of questions. The players Keeley Skepper, Ciara Fitzgerald and Yasmin Duursma were very generous with their time and open to all lines of questioning from the students. The questions ranged from “where did your football journey begin”, to “what does your diet look like as a professional athlete”, to “what is your training schedule like when the season starts compared to the off season”. Questions also scoped out the players off-field hobbies, what their interactions are like with the men’s team, what was their football pathway and also if the players worked outside footy.

All the girls relished the session, as it gave them an idea of what life is like to be an AFLW player and a glimpse of what it takes to get there.

The session finished with all of the girls receiving a free Carlton beanie, as well as an opportunity for photos and signatures.

Thank you very much to the Carlton Football Club for offering this opportunity, to the players themselves and to Maddy Pieper, AFL Central Vic Representative, for all her work organising this experience.
