Business Management Excursion

07/02/2019

To kick start the 2019 Unit 3 Business Management course, students attended an excursion to Apiam Animal Health, in the last week of term, last year.

Students enjoyed an extensive presentation led by the Managing Director, Dr Chris Richards. Dr Richards presented on the foundations of the business (Area of Study 1) including: stakeholders, business objectives, strategies and areas of management. Human Resources Manager, Mrs Renee Waters, presented HR information such as performance management, motivation strategies and the role of HR. This information was a perfect fit with Area of Study 2 in the course. Finally, the students were given a tour by the Supply and Logistics Supervisor, Mr Chris Dale, with Chris outlining the key operational components of the business, linking directly with our Area of Study 3; Operations Management.

Students were delighted with the opportunity presented by Apiam- it was a wonderful introduction to Unit 3, enabling students to link theory to practice through a publicly listed company right here in Bendigo. It was an added bonus for students to hear the information from the company’s Managing Director and the students were most impressed! The students are to be commended for their engagement in the excursion, evidenced by thoughtful and well-constructed questions.

On behalf of the students, a very sincere thank you to the management team at Apiam Animal Health for their efforts in preparing such a valuable excursion and making such a beneficial contribution to the learning of our students.
