Assessment and Reporting

26/06/2020

As you are aware, live reporting and feedback on your child’s learning is accessible at any time through the SIMON or the Parent Access Module (PAM) platform. As this is the end of a semester, now is a good time to have a discussion with your child about their learning.

In addition to this, summary transcripts of the Major Assessment Tasks will be available to view on your child’s profile through PAM. Feedback from families has been that while live reporting can provide up-to-date information, collation of these assessment tasks are still a desirable document, and can serve a range of purposes.

Typically our end of semester reports include a reflection on students’ general Learning Behaviours for the semester and Victorian Curriculum progression points. These won’t be included in our first semester report as we felt they wouldn’t accurately reflect progress given the different learning environments students have experienced through the term. You may also note some small inconsistencies between subjects in terms of the types of tasks and feedback. This more flexible approach to assessment and reporting was required to support our learning from home arrangements. You can look forward to a more consistent report for your child in Semester 2

Subject Selection

The Subject Selection process is significant in the lives of our students. It is often seen as an exciting time, when students can make choices based on their interests and future pathways. It can also be a challenging time, with students requiring support to work through the range of options open to them. To facilitate this process, please note that for students in Year 9 and Year 10 a Parent/Student/Teacher interview with their Learning Mentor is compulsory. This interview will be in addition to subject teacher interviews. During this time, students will complete their online subject selections. A receipt of the subjects will be emailed to the student and parents/carers.

Parent Student Teacher Interviews

Thursday 6 August, 4pm-8pm and Friday 7 August 9am-4pm.

These interviews will most likely be conducted remotely by video conference using Google Meet. The College will confirm the arrangements closer to this date and will be in line with the State and Federal Government guidelines regarding social distancing. Please note that Friday 7 August is a pupil free day.

Bookings will be available on PAM from 9am, Wednesday 15 July

In the event that you are unable to make a booking with your child’s Learning Mentor, we ask that you email your child’s Year Level Learning Leader by Wednesday 29 July to make an appointment to complete the subject selection process.

Your child’s Learning Mentor will support and guide you through the Subject Selection process during this meeting. College website resources, independent research, meetings, communication with our careers team, dialogue with subject teachers and conversations with family and friends are recommended preparation for the meeting.

We encourage families to begin a conversation with your child regarding their interests and future pathways. It may be that they are not yet sure, and this is understandable, but these conversations should support them to identify areas that they find interesting, and are passionate about.

Explore subject offerings on the Learning @ CMC website. Early in Term 3, students will have the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the subject selection process. Please note that this site is still being updated, so there may be some subjects that won’t have as much information to read prior to the holidays. All will be updated by the end of the first week of Term 3.

Students entering Years 8, 9 and Year 12 in 2021 will complete their subject selection with their Learning Mentor at school, however parents and carers are welcome to make an appointment with their child’s Learning Mentor during the Parent/Student/Teacher interviews if required.

If your child wishes to pursue an Applied Learning Pathway in 2021 they will need to meet with the VCAL team on Parent/Student/Teacher interview days. You can make this booking by phoning the General Office at St Mary’s on 5445 9100.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the College by phoning 5445 9100.
