Animal Studies – Baby Hopping Mice

01/09/2021

Our Trade Training Centre is home to baby hopping mice that are used in our Animal Studies classes. They are about 2 weeks old and are starting to explore outside of their nest.

Spinifex Hopping Mice are nocturnal, placental mammals that enjoy digging and foraging for seeds, nuts and roots in the wild. They live in a colony and can be quite difficult to breed in captivity. At the College we feed them a high quality rodent diet with dried fruit and seeds. They enjoy wild bird mix in the form of a seed ball and devour any plants that we add to their enclosure. They love to dig and redecorate their enclosure every night.
