SCHOOL SPORT VICTORIA – STATE FINALS

Track and Field

On Monday 16 October, nine Catherine McAuley College students travelled to Lakeside Stadium, Melbourne for the SSV State Track and Field Championships. The day comprised 194 events, so some students knew that they were in for a long day, with events well-spaced out. The challenges of the day were compounded by the ‘four seasons in one day’ of Melbourne weather.

Congratulations to all students who made it this far – qualifying for the State Finals is an incredible achievement regardless of the next results. To be in the top eight (in most cases) in the State is something you should all be very proud of.

All students represented the College and themselves exceptionally well against some incredibly tough competition, and their results reflected this.

Congratulations especially to Jorja Morrison who was crowned as an individual State Champion in two events – first in the Girls 17-year Long Jump and then again in the Girls 17-year Triple Jump. These incredible individual efforts were an amazing reward for Jorja.

Congratulations also to our 18–20-year Girls Relay Team who also won a State Title by blitzing the field in the 4 x 100m relay. The team included girls from four different year levels, with three of them running in an older age group, further highlighting the wonderful effort by all. Team members were: Grace Mulqueen (Yr 8), Gen Nihill (Yr 10), Jorja Morrison (Yr 11) and Caitlin Evans (Yr 12). The girls won by over 10 metres, which was astounding, and were absolutely incredible as a team.
